About the Project

Jamvi Salama (“The Safe Mat”) is an initiative by Ishi Nia Foundation dedicated to supporting children and young people facing emotional trauma in Tanzania. The project provides safe spaces for healing, emotional expression, trauma counseling, and mentorship.

Phase One focuses on children living in orphanages, settings already designed to offer shelter and care. Jamvi Salama enhances these spaces to make them safer and more supportive for long-term emotional healing. The initiative is intended to grow into a national movement reaching all children experiencing trauma, wherever they are.

Why It Matters

Across Tanzania, many children live with emotional scars caused by loss, instability, neglect, or traumatic experiences. Without support, trauma can silently undermine their confidence, mental health, and future opportunities. Jamvi Salama creates a foundation for healing offering trauma-informed care, trusted mentorship, and safe environments that nurture resilience, emotional well-being, and hope.
