Orphanage Research and Impact Initiative (ORII)

About the Project

The Orphanage Research & Impact Initiative (ORII) is a project by Ishi Nia Foundation that explores the realities of life in Tanzanian orphanages. Through in-depth interviews with orphanage supervisors, caregivers, and children, ORII documents daily routines, challenges, and success stories to gain insight into the needs of orphaned children and the institutions that support them. The goal is to use this research to inform impactful, sustainable interventions and share these findings with both local and global audiences.

Why It Matters

Many children in Tanzania’s orphanages face complex challenges ranging from limited educational resources to emotional trauma and lack of community support. Yet, these stories often go unheard. ORII shines a light on these realities by centering the voices of children and caregivers, allowing for a deeper understanding of their experiences. By identifying gaps and opportunities, ORII contributes to more effective support systems, improved policies, and stronger community engagement in child welfare.
